Jason Strong to continue the growth at Smithfield Cattle Company

Experienced Agribusiness and supply chain executive Jason Strong has been appointed CEO of Smithfield Cattle Company (Smithfield).

Mr Strong’s career has focused on innovations and supply chain development to cement Australia as the producer of the best beef in the world. His experience includes managing the establishment of MSA grading services, owning high end butcher shops, commercial and seedstock cattle production, commercialising DNA technologies, promoting Australian beef in international markets and most recently as Managing Director of AACo.

Smithfield Managing Director, Jason Shearer-Smith said “We are really looking forward to Jason joining our company. Jason and I have built a professional and personal relationship over the past 15 years, having him part of our business is a great opportunity to drive Smithfield’s continued growth”.

Mr Strong commented “I am very excited to be joining such a well respected and established family business and am looking forward to the opportunities we have to further grow and expand the company”.

Smithfield is a family owned, state of the art cattle operation which finishes and markets cattle for the domestic and international beef markets. The company’s heritage started with the Shearer-Smith’s grandfather owning and managing butcher shops in South East Queensland dating back to the late 1920s.

Smithfield has three generations of experience to deliver first class cattle performance and is recognised as one of the leading cattle companies in Australia. Smithfield currently employs 50 passionate staff to facilitate feedlotting, cattle backgrounding, transport logistics, crop production and consulting across its two feedlots, Smithfield and Sapphire, and multiple other owned and leased properties.

Smithfield was named as Woolworths’ national livestock supplier of the year for 2014 and continues to be one of the largest contract suppliers into Woolworths’ northern supply chain, delivering around 15,000 MSA compliant steers and heifers each year.

Smithfield has an existing turn-off capacity of 85,000 high quality grain fed cattle per annum. This capacity can be significantly increased with the expansion of Sapphire Feedlot to its approved size of just under 20,000 head.
