Firm Sheep market at Ballarat

Yarding - 47,075 (+6194).
Lambs - 33,065 (+1933).
Sheep - 14,010 (-4261).

Lamb numbers increased again this week to 33,065 yarded. The quality was again excellent with a large percentage of the yarding off feed. All the usual buying group attended and operated in firm to cheaper trend, a very strong start with prices over 1,000c in places but to settle down as the market went on. Heavy lambs were back at the start by 40c/kg cwt in places. Feeders and restockers weren't as active this week paying from $120 to $220/head.

Light weight 1 and 2 score lambs, 12 to 18kg, sold from $155 to $174/head to average 1,035c/kg cwt. Trade lambs, 18 to 22kg, sold from $187 to $220/head to average around 970c/kg cwt. Lambs, 22 to 24kg, sold from $215 to $248/head, making from 925c to 1,035c to average around 960c/kg cwt. 4 score lambs, 24 to 26kg, sold from $232 to $248/head to average around 950c/kg cwt. Heavy, 26 to 30kg, lambs sold from $250 to $279 to average from 925c and over 30kg lambs sold from $270 to $336/head to average around 860c/kg cwt.

Sheep numbers increased to 14,010 yarded, the market was firm on last week. Light weight 1 and 2 score sheep sold from $90 to $140/head to average 700c/kg cwt. Medium weight sheep sold from $125 to $202/head, making from 625c to 842c to average 740c/kg cwt. Heavy sheep, 24 to 30kg, sold from $170 to $265 and over 30kg sold from $219 to $290/head. Heavy Merino ewes averaged 760c and heavy crossbred ewes averaged 720c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino wethers sold from $194 to $270 and medium weights sold from $138 to $231/head to average 770c/kg cwt. Rams sold to $141/head.
