Dearer trend for both Sheep and Lambs at Ballarat

Yarding - 25,904 (-596).
Lambs - 18,882 (+1232).
Sheep - 7072 (-1828).

Agents yarded 18,800 Lambs. The quality was mostly excellent, still a large portion of the yarding coming off feed. All the usual buying group were in attendance but not all were fully active with strong competition from store buyers to see the market up $5 to $15/head up on last week's levels.

Agents reported the market as mostly dearer, light lambs going back to the paddock were up $10, light and medium trade lambs were up $5 to $6/head. Heavy lambs were mixed with better quality firm to $5 dearer and the plainer types firm to slightly softer, and extra heavy export lambs selling $10 to $15 dearer to a top of $339 with an estimated weight of over 40kg cwt, with several pens selling over $300/head.

7,100 sheep were yarded and agents reported the market was again very strong to be firm to $5/head dearer, not a lot of extra heavy sheep on offer. Merino ewes sold to $258 and Crossbred ewes sold to $278/head. Crossbred wethers sold from $90 to $278/head and Merino wethers sold from $115 to $268/head. Rams sold to $158/head.
