Agworld’s standardised platform hosting a new unique partnership

Agworld, Flurosat, PCT AgCloud, CSIRO and AgLink Australia unite to tackle the fragmented agtech market with comprehensive decision support for modern farmers.

Agworld, a major global tech company and the independent platform for agronomists, growers and service providers, together with commercial partners Flurosat, PCT AgCloud, AgLink Australia and CSIRO recently formed a partnership that successfully bid for a A$3M Cooperative Research Centres Project (CRC-P) grant. The aim of the grant funding is to bring growers and agronomists actionable, proactive recommendations by joining previously disparate, and unusable data streams using machine learning and artificial intelligence. This grant funds a 3-year project to integrate smart tools by Flurosat and PCT Agcloud into the Agworld Platform where they are combined with existing and developing datasets. These datasets are brought to the project by AgLink Australia and CSIRO (the independent Australian federal government agency responsible for scientific research) and, together with new smart tools, will form the basis for the world’s most scalable, high-value analytics engine in agriculture.

As agriculture evolves globally and digital tools are becoming common-place for many farmers, the need for one common platform to collaborate on with their service providers is becoming stronger. Connectivity and standardised data are now a must and Agworld, through its structured platform that is focused on collaboration, finds itself uniquely placed within the agtech sphere to assist growers with increasing their profitability. It is because of this structured platform, that Agworld is able to assist startups like Flurosat with a platform that is already used by more than 75% of the agronomists connecting to 18,000 growers in Australia, and connect their data with that of other partners like AgLink and CSIRO.

"For this CRC project to be the only one of its kind awarded in the agricultural industry is recognition of the importance of technology supporting future production systems, but also the critical need for collaboration" Simon Foley - General Manager of Agworld Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Agworld CEO, Doug Fitch adds to this: “It has already been 10 years since we started Agworld and it has been a long but rewarding journey, but I never forget what it is like to be a small startup that has to fight for recognition. Now that we are one of the larger and most recognised agtech companies in the world, I really enjoy helping new startups like FluroSat by connecting them to growers and agronomists who can then try their technology. For many startups, a solid connection between their product and the user is the biggest blocker in achieving commercial success; our platform is uniquely positioned to help provide startups with exposure and we are passionate about doing so.”

“Growers and advisors are rightfully overwhelmed by the amount of data available to them and the seasons don’t wait for them to digest and synthesise it all. The partners in this project are taking the lead in resolving the issues plaguing our industry - incompatible data formats, lack of time for analysis, and endless browser tabs. Systems need to talk to each other, run analysis and scientific models in the background and proactively advise users with timely insights. That’s what we are building with the CRC-P support,” said FluroSat CEO Anastasia Volkova.

Ian Scutt, Aglink Australia CEO stated “AgLink Australia, its members and their farmer clients have been exposed to numerous digital technologies over recent years. To date, the adoption of many of these technologies by the end user (farmer) has been minimal due to a range of reasons such as market readiness and adequate resources to support and service. This project brings together those leading organisations in this space to provide agronomists and their clients with proactive and practical solutions to improve farm productivity”.

“For this CRC project to be the only one of its kind awarded in the agricultural industry is recognition of the importance of technology supporting future production systems, but also the critical need for collaboration bringing disparate data into easier to use, globally scalable, high value sources of information”, said Simon Foley, General Manager of Agworld in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Under the CRC-P, the group will leverage the FluroSense analytics engine alongside CSIRO models, data from on-farm machinery (PCT AgCloud) and in-field observations (Agworld and Aglink Australia), and machine-learning approaches to provide farmers with accurate and comprehensive information about the performance of their crops. Using the models and data collected from the partner systems via Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), FluroSat will endeavour to predict key crop growth parameters and correct predictions throughout the season with remote sensing and ground truthed data from the combined systems, whilst also working on generating actionable insights including nutrient recommendations and identifying the reasons for low performing areas within the crop.

The project is funded for the next 3 years and real results for users the industry will begin within the first year.
