Agersens virtual herding trial a success

Agersens has successfully demonstrated a virtual herding operation in a typical rangeland cattle environment in Queensland in Nov – Dec 2017. Grazing trials were carried out on flat grazing land at Belmont near Rockhampton Queensland in hot, humid, wet season conditions.
The trial clearly demonstrated effective fencing of animals into grazing cells within a larger paddock.
Trials varied from single and double virtual fences, through to dynamic grazing and virtual herding (mustering).
Cattle were remotely monitored using the eShepherd™ system from 2000 kilometres away, demonstrating one of the key features of the virtual shepherding system; remote cattle management.
The breed of cattle included bos indicus and bos taurus cattle with ages ranging from 6 months to 11 years.
All cattle were trained to respond to the virtual fence within 24-48 hours.
Virtual HerdingIn the virtual herding trial, cattle movement was automated. The trial demonstrated the process of relocating cattle from one end of a paddock to the other using a virtual boundary.
Cattle started at 9:00am at one end of the paddock with a single virtual fence. A second virtual fence was added to move the cattle down the paddock.
By 14:00 cattle were successfully moved to a grazing cell a the opposite end of the paddock.
The grazing cell boundaries ensured cattle had access to water during the entire period.
With the successful completion of the Belmont Trial, Agersens have demonstrated that the eShepherd™ product will make an enormous difference to cattle farming worldwide. The product will be launched later this year.
